What causes stress?

Demanding situations or excessive pressures can cause stress. These may be external, environmental or physiological.

The way each of us processes stress is significant to its effect on us. Our perception plays a vital role, as do our circumstances. While some people seem to thrive on stress, others are debilitated by it. Understanding that this is unique to the individual is vital, and identifying the symptoms can be critical to managing stress.

What are the symptoms of stress?

There are a number of ways people experience stress. These include:

People who experience chronic stress often feel out of control of their emotions. They have difficulty making decisions and find it hard to focus. Motivation is usually low, and they feel unhappy with their life. They can experience a sense of hopelessness and fear.


Stress becomes a vicious cycle. Many have tried treatments, including prescription medications, relaxation classes, meditation and counselling, and nothing seems to work. They feel trapped in an endless cycle of self-criticism, worry and shame.


Psychotherapy and hypnotherapy enable the client to unlock the specific reasons behind their behaviour, including exploring the thinking structure that is driving them emotionally.

Is Hypnotherapy effective for treating stress?

How many Hypnotherapy sessions do I need?

Hypnotherapy is described as ‘brief’ therapy, meaning treatment is conducted over a short period, usually 4-6 sessions.


Unlike other forms of therapy, we do not delve into your memories or traumas.


Our attention is focused on the patterns of behaviour you experience as unhelpful or the thoughts that trigger your stress. We seek to replace them with resourceful thoughts and habits that free you from experiencing irrational fear.

During a hypnotherapy session, a qualified hypnotherapist will guide you through a process to induce a trance-like state that helps focus your mind. You can respond more readily to suggestions that improve or eliminate unwanted thoughts and behaviours in this relaxed state. The initial session is 90 minutes, followed by 60-minute sessions.


Sessions are held online or face to face.


Sessions begin with talking, so your therapist can understand what you are experiencing. The hypnosis session follows. You will be given homework which includes listening to a recording before you go to bed.


During the hypnotherapy session, you remain awake, relaxed and in control.

Your hypnosis session will be 100% tailored to your specific needs and outcomes.

Hypnosis is a safe, gentle and relaxing experience, and it is designed to get to the source of what prevents you from achieving a stress-free life.

A 90-minute introductory session is held to identify and explore the areas you want to change and for your therapist to devise an appropriate and personal treatment plan.


You will then be guided in your first hypnotherapy session, which lasts approximately 15 – 20 minutes.


Typically for phobias and fear-related issues, 4 – 6 sessions are required
