What is a chronic pain?

Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts for more than 12 weeks. It can be experienced as low, medium or intense pain and can vary in intensity and duration.

 

Persistent pain can be intrusive, and it robs you of enjoying life and participating fully in what you want to do.

 

What is acute pain?

 

Pain is generally considered acute when it lasts fewer than three months. Acute pain typically starts suddenly in response to an injury — a cut, bruise, burn, broken bone, or pulled muscle, for example. Acute pain can also be caused by a fever or infection, labour contractions, and menstrual cramps.

What are the symptoms of pain?

Acute, severe pain and chronic pain have a detrimental effect on every aspect of the life of individuals, produce anxiety and emotional distress, and negatively impact a person’s general well-being. Pain limits their capacity to perform family, social and vocational roles in daily life. People with pain are likely to experience the following symptoms:

 

  • Intense and/or persistent physical discomfort on one or more areas of the body
  • Physical reactions and sensations, including sweating, racing heartbeat, tightening of the muscles and/or difficulty breathing
  • Fear and dread

Is Hypnotherapy effective for treating pain?

Acute and chronic pain can be radically reduced and sometimes eliminated with Clinical Hypnotherapy and Strategic Psychotherapy. 

 

Hypnosis will enable you to access the part of your mind that controls your thoughts, emotions and behaviour. (Known as the unconscious mind.)

 

Through direct and powerful communication with your unconscious mind, hypnosis will enable you to communicate with your subconscious mind to rewire and reprogramme unwanted thoughts and behaviours. 

How many Hypnotherapy sessions do I need?

Hypnotherapy is described as ‘brief’ therapy, meaning treatment is conducted over a short period, usually 4-6 sessions.

 

Unlike other forms of therapy, we do not delve into your memories or traumas. 

 

Our attention is focused on the patterns of behaviour you experience as unhelpful or the thoughts that trigger your phobia. We seek to replace them with resourceful thoughts and habits that free you from experiencing irrational fear.

During a hypnotherapy session, a qualified hypnotherapist will guide you through a process to induce a trance-like state that helps focus your mind. You can respond more readily to suggestions that improve or eliminate unwanted thoughts and behaviours in this relaxed state. The initial session is 90 minutes, followed by 60-minute sessions.

 

Sessions are held online or face to face.

 

Sessions begin with talking, so your therapist can understand what you are experiencing. The hypnosis session follows. You will be given homework which includes listening to a recording before you go to bed.

 

During the hypnotherapy session, you remain awake, relaxed and in control.

Your hypnosis session will be 100% tailored to your specific needs and outcomes.

Hypnosis is a safe, gentle and relaxing experience, and it is designed to rewire your brain to change your perception of pain so that you don’t register the intensity of the pain as you did before the hypnotherapy.

A 90-minute introductory session is held to identify and explore the areas you want to change and for your therapist to devise an appropriate and personal treatment plan.

 

You will then be guided in your first hypnotherapy session, which lasts approximately 15 – 20 minutes.

 

Typically for phobias and fear-related issues, 4 – 6 sessions are required
