Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep, stay asleep or cause you to wake up too early and not get back to sleep. 


Lack of quality sleep can impact your ability to function at your peak. Poor sleep can increase your risk of accidents due to mental and physical impairment. 

What causes insomnia or poor sleep?

Chronic insomnia is usually a result of stress, life events or habits that disrupt sleep.  These include:


  • Stress Home, work, career, relationships, children, finances.
  • Poor sleep habits Irregular bedtime schedule, stimulating activities before bed, an uncomfortable bed or sleep environment, eating or watching TV and using technology before bed. 
  • Eating late in the evening Full stomach, heartburn. 
  • Travel or work schedule – Disruption or no routine. Time-zones. Shift work.
  • Medical conditions – Dementia,  autoimmune conditions, cancer, pain. 
  • Mental health disorders – Anxiety, Depression, Chronic Fatigue, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Sleep Apnea, cramps. 
  • Medications & Substances – Prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, supplements, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and recreational drugs.

What are the symptoms of insomnia?

The symptoms of insomnia are varied; however, people with a insomnia and poor sleep are likely to experience the following:

  • decreased energy 
  • poor concentration 
  • decreased performance 
  • increased risk of accidents
  • increased risk of depression and other mental health conditions
  • increased risk of chronic medical conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, and obesity.

People who experience poor quality sleep are generally aware that they do not feel on top of things. They feel lethargic, foggy headed and lacking energy and vitality. Family and friends often witness outbursts of anger or tears. 


 Numerous treatment options are available for treating chronic insomnia; however, some require long therapy sessions, medications or costly ‘sleep hygiene’ measures.

Is Hypnotherapy effective for treating insomnia?

Insomnia and sleep disturbances can be eliminated with Clinical Hypnotherapy and Strategic Psychotherapy. 


Hypnosis will enable you to access the part of your mind that controls your thoughts, emotions and behaviour. (Known as the unconscious mind.)

How many Hypnotherapy sessions do I need?

Hypnotherapy is described as ‘brief’ therapy, meaning treatment is conducted over a short period, usually 4-6 sessions.


Unlike other forms of therapy, we do not delve into your memories or traumas.


Our attention is focused on the patterns of behaviour you experience as unhelpful or the thoughts that trigger your phobia. We seek to replace them with resourceful thoughts and habits that free you from experiencing irrational fear.

During a hypnotherapy session, a qualified hypnotherapist will guide you through a process to induce a trance-like state that helps focus your mind. You can respond more readily to suggestions that improve or eliminate unwanted thoughts and behaviours in this relaxed state. The initial session is 90 minutes, followed by 60-minute sessions.


Sessions are held online or face to face.


Sessions begin with talking, so your therapist can understand what you are experiencing. The hypnosis session follows. You will be given homework which includes listening to a recording before you go to bed.


During the hypnotherapy session, you remain awake, relaxed and in control.

Your hypnosis session will be 100% tailored to your specific needs and outcomes.

Hypnosis is a safe, gentle and relaxing experience, and it is designed to get to the source of the issues and provide a new, positive outlook on life.

A 90-minute introductory session is held to identify and explore the areas you want to change and for your therapist to devise an appropriate and personal treatment plan.


You will then be guided in your first hypnotherapy session, which lasts approximately 15 – 20 minutes.


Typically for phobias and fear-related issues, 4 – 6 sessions are required
